It may have seemed chaotic at the start with 56 members scrambling around getting themselves organised into teams for photos etc but we actually got away early on a beautiful day albeit a little humid. With this sort of turnout there is no doubt that this is the most popular event on our golfing calendar. The course was in great condition and even though they are in the process of coring their greens it did not interfere on too many holes. It was a tough day in the field with comments about the length of the course and especially some of the pin placements on the back nine holes but the scores tell the story with the top 6 teams being within 2 shots of each other and only 10 shots separating a field of 14 teams. Well done everyone.
Thanks to our Events Organiser Ted and the high turnout Gold Canyon donated 5 Free Game Vouchers and the committee decided that they would be decided by Random Draw and the winners were:
John Noyes, Rene Bacchi, Prajet Bacchi, Lester Twigdew & David Stephens who will no doubt enjoy a round down there again in the near future.
Christian did a great job in selecting prizes for the Nearest the Pins and even though I had forgotten to bring the club markers, for which I sincerely apologise, we did make do on the day and the winners were:
Hole 2 - Mr.B., Hole 7 - Dan Evans, Hole 12 - Rob Lassig, Hole 17 - Mr.B.
Also thanks to Frank who ensured that all handicaps were up to date for the teams on the day and who even sacrificed having lunch so that he could enter all the results after the match while the rest of us enjoyed fine food and drinks in the very welcome air-conditioned comfort of our private room in the clubhouse.
The winners on the day and International Team for 2012 were Team Australia: Brendan Tanham, Graham Best, Dan Evans and Garry Walker with a gross 71 net 61 consisting of 17 pars & 1 birdie.
Well done Team Australia.
Runners-up were the Team Beautiful Thailand: Ram Taylor, Dao Beece, Prajet Bacchi and Noi Taylor with a gross 76 net 62. Well done Ladies.
Third Place were Team Canada eh: Robert Plotnikoff, Gerry Brimacombe, Gordon Langtry and Ted Taylor with a gross 71 net 63 also consisting of 17 pars & 1 birdie. There were 4 teams tied for third with net 63 but the committee had previously decided that in the event of a tie the winning team would be the lowest handicap down to the decimal point so well done Team Canada.
As usual All the committee did an excellent job and thanks goes to Team Captains Jack & Gary L for promoting and collecting the nomination fees. At the end of the day though it is you the members that have earned the biggest thanks for making the day a success. Thank You All.
